Tasputra Perkim

 Disabled children

Tasputra Perkim is a day centre that officially opened in 1988. The Centre works with, on average, 36 disabled individuals per day. Most of these are children and young people between ages of 2 and 30 although some older individuals also attend.

Those attending the Centre are primarily diagnosed with Intellectual Disabilities, Global Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, physical challenges such as blindness, or have a combination of these. It is conveniently located in the Ampang area, very close to Great Eastern Mall and has become a training centre as in addition to seeing to the daily needs of those who attend.

The Centre is looking for volunteers to help in an array of tasks.

  • Volunteers to empower and assist the staff. This could be in the form of teaching a staff member basic computer skills. There is no need for knowledge on writing computer programs, simply a demonstration on how the Internet can be used to find new music or activities to do with the children would be greatly appreciated.
  • Volunteers to simply “be” with the children. Those who would like to spend a few hours each week completing an art activity, reading to the children, or playing a game.
  • Help from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, doctor, nurses, special needs teachers, or those from similar backgrounds, would be especially appreciated.
