Home of Peace

The Home of Peace is a girls' home providing a safe, loving environment with an emphasis on education. ABWM have financially supported the girls' educational needs for several years. Last year, they were able to purchase new textbooks, school uniforms, and pay the online registration fees for various educational programmes. This years' funding will be used for similar purposes.
Possibilities for volunteering include; assisting the girls with their reading and phonics or help with homework, donating food items, sponsoring days out, counselling.

Desa Amal Jireh

Desa Amal Jireh provide food, shelter, education, love, and care to underprivileged children and senior citizens. The organisation is a combination of two facilities: Rumah Faith and Faith Eagle’s Nest.

The home names education as a priority because “education gives a better hope” for those in need.

Women's Aid Organisation

WAO has worked for years to bring violence against women into the spotlight in order to prevent it and promote women’s rights. As part of this mission, they run a Women’s Refuge. The refuge shelters battered women, abused migrant workers, trafficked women, women asylum seekers and single mothers of different cultures, geographical backgrounds and languages.

PAWS Animal Welfare Society

PAWS Animal Welfare Society accepts unwanted and abandoned animals. Mostly dogs and cats but occasionally rabbits, chickens, and other small animals. They provide shelter, food, water, and basic medical care including neutering, vaccinations, and deworming. They hope each and every animal will be adopted.

If you would like to volunteer with PAWS, you can choose to spend time with any animal of your choice for an hour or a whole day. Volunteers can also help keep the shelter clean. Volunteer hours can be anytime Monday- Sunday (except Wednesday) between 9am-4pm. Small groups of volunteers are also welcome.

Alliance of Chin Refugees (ACR)

ACR is a coalition of 17 ethnic groups working toward a better life for Chin refugees in Malaysia. Two aspects of life that ACR assist with are education and healthcare for refugees.There are opportunities for volunteers to get involved in the school or in the clinic.

Openhands

Openhands is a girls’ home for up to 15 girls between the ages of 4-18. Keeping the home small helps ensure the place “feels like a real family home” for the residents. The importance of personal relationships is seen as key to development.
Openhands are currently looking for individuals to give their time in the afternoons to assist the girls with English, maths, and reading skills. The Home is also open to assistance in taking the girls on weekend outings. In the past, individuals have sponsored the girls to go out for lunch, to the movies, or on picnics.

Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT)

MYCAT is an alliance of four main wildlife conservation NGOs; the Malaysian Nature Society, TRAFFIC Southeast Asia, Wildlife Conservation Society- Malaysia Programme and WWF- Malaysia. Their aim is to save the tiger population in Malaysia. Donations are used to fund the Citizen Action for Tigers programme. This enables weekend volunteers to spend time in Taman Negara monitoring and reporting on suspicious activities to MYCAT’s Wildlife Crime Hotline. MYCAT also collaborates with the local communities to save wildlife and forests while enhancing their livelihoods.

Tasputra Perkim

Tasputra Perkim is a day centre that works with, on average, 36 disabled individuals per day. Most are children and young people between ages of 2 and 30 although some older individuals also attend.
Those attending the Centre are primarily diagnosed with Intellectual Disabilities, Global Developmental Delay, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, physical challenges such as blindness, or have a combination of these.
We need volunteers to empower and assist the staff. This could be in the form of teaching a staff member basic computer skills. Volunteers to simply “be” with the children. Those who would like to spend a few hours each week completing an art activity, reading to the children, or playing a game. Help from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, doctor, nurses, special needs teachers, or those from similar backgrounds, would be especially appreciated.

Health Equity initiatives (HEI)

HEI’s mission is to promote and protect the health rights of marginalized communities. They work primarily with refugees and asylum seekers from Myanmar, Iran, Sri Lanka, Syria, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
Most refugees hope for resettlement in a third country such as America, Australia, or the UK, and require skills to succeed once they reach there.
Examples of help required include: Providing a practical knowledge class in the areas of sewing, knitting, or cooking, teaching budgeting skills, providing lessons on basic hygiene such as correct hand washing or food cleaning, sharing every day information such as traffic/pedestrian rules or simply have light conversation to improve English skills.
