Volunteer > Childrens homes

Desa Jireh Amal (formerly Rumah Faith)
Desa Jireh Amal is a children’s home in Semeniyh housing around 90 children and a small group of elderly men and women.  ABWM members organise a playgroup on Monday afternoons and are looking for extra volunteers to help run activities in the nursery as well as with the older girls and boys.  Activities include games, songs, arts and crafts, beading, stitching and anything else you want to do!  Volunteers also take children on outings to places like KidsZone and the water park during school term and holidays.

Home of Peace
Home of Peace is a safe haven for young girls that places special emphasis on education.  They are always looking for volunteers to tutor in various subjects.   Volunteers can work with older girls (ages 12-16) any day of the week in the afternoons from 4:30-6:00pm and with younger girls (7-9 years old) in home school from 10:00-1:00pm.  The girls would also love to do craft activities and receive piano or music lessons, so if you can help out, please let them know.

Shepherd Centre
ABWM members visit this beloved home for 105 orphaned and abandoned children in Kajang each Wednesday morning between 10:00 and 12:00pm.  Volunteers run two weekly sessions:  a playgroup for younger children and tuition for the older children.  Volunteers are welcome to join the volunteer group to organise activities for a playgroup or to teach about 28 children who do not attend formal school.  Volunteers occasionally chaperone children on field trips and outings (ie zoo, soft play centres, swimming).

Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones is a children’s home in Taman Seputeh (near Mid-Valley).  ABWM members tutor a small group of boys on Monday and Tuesday mornings.  Some of them do not currently have access to regular schooling and volunteers are needed to help with basic maths, science and English.  Volunteers are also welcome to work during other times and days. Lessons do not need to be prepared in advance; just show up and help with homework.
